Join the Asian Art Museum for an exclusive visit to China with the Barbara Bass Bakar Director and CEO Dr. Jay Xu. Taking you beyond the Museum walls, this journey will give you the opportunity to explore the archeological dig sites of the Phoenix Kingdoms exhibition in the Wuhan area, immerse yourself in the ancient Chinese cultures of Chengdu and Lijiang, and conclude your travels in the contemporary capital of Shanghai. Travelers will also participate in unique experiences including private viewings of museum vault collections, artist studios, and in-home visits with local collectors.

Day 1 | Nov 9 | Wuhan
Activities: Early morning flight arrivals; Travelers may take the day to relax or participate in optional art visits in the afternoon.

Day 2 | Nov 10 | Yichang day trip
Activities: Travel by train on a scenic voyage to Yichang. Enjoy lunch in Yichang, followed by a cruise along the Xiling Gorge before returning to Wuhan by train.

Activities: Contemporary artist and collection visits; Private after-hours viewing of Hubei Provincial Museum.

Day 1 | Nov 19 | Travel Shanghai to Lhasa, 11,995 ft above sea level
Activities: Flight from Shanghai to Lhasa (Via Xi’an); depart at 06:40; arrive at 15:10
On the way to the hotel, enjoy the heart-beating highland view along the Yarlong Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra). Get full rest for acclimatization.

Day 2 | Nov 20 | Lhasa
Activities: Morning visit to Jokhang Temple, the Holy temple in the Tibetan Buddhist world.
Visit Woeser Zedro tea house, a favorite of local Tibetans.
Visit the Sera Monastery where we see lively debates by monks.
Visit Tibetan Hospital to see Tibetan traditional medicine and the astronomical calendar centre.

Day 3 | Nov 21 | Lhasa
Activities: Venture up the Potola Palace, winter residence for the successive Dalai Lamas and one of the most charismatic structures every built in Tibet. It is an awe-inspiring experience.
Visit Nenang Monastery and its Ancient Documents Research Institute, where the "Pawo Rinpochi (Living Buddha)" of the Red Hats of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism has been seated for generations. At present, the monastery is presided over by the 11th Pawo Rinpoche.

Day 4 | Nov 22 | Shigatse
Activities: Journey to another area of Tibet, Shigatse, making several stops along the way.
Appreciate the holy Lake of Yamdrok Yumtso, see the Karola Glacier, and visit the historical city Gyantse.
Visit Pelkhor monastery for its famous Kumbum Pagoda, the only one in Tibet to contain different Tibetan Buddhist sects.
Visit with a Tibetan family for a glimpse of everyday Tibetan life.
Overnight stay at Shigatse.

Day 5 | Nov 23 | Lhasa
Activities: Visit Pachen Lama's seat, the great Tashilumpo monastery.
Visit the Local Market.
Continue your journey back to Lhasa. En route, visit Nyimo Tibetan incense products, where local incense producers will instruct you in how to try making your own incense products.
