Overview

Shanghai is a bustling city with a pronounced International flavor that continues from its heyday in the early 1900’s when it was one of the world’s great maritime crossroads and the Bund was the Wall Street of the East. A walk through Shanghai’s old neighborhoods reveals a fusion of early 20th century European architecture and old Chinese facades. The city divided by the HunagPu River is a window into the past and a view of the future a complete contrast within one city. It is an incredible combination of East and West in food, fashion, lifestyle, architecture and business. Unlike Beijing, this fast-paced, art-packed, party city has retained much of its colonial heritage, from the tree-lined French Concession district to the majestic Bund, and while her citizens have yet to be truly touched with the magic sophistication stick, the veneer of ‘world class city’ gets thicker and more convincing everyday. Add world-renowned chefs, thriving restaurants, lounges, clubs, bars and nightlife, plus a burgeoning art and design scene, and you’ve got a very interesting trip ahead. Come and see the New China, nothing could be finer.

Incentive Highlights

ENJOY DINNER ON THE HUANGPU RIVER

Cruise along the Huangpu River, the undulating dragon that divides the two Shanghais, east and west, past and future. The Bund and its promenade are landmarks of Shanghai's 19th-century struggle to reclaim a waterfront from the bogs of this river, which originates in nearby Tai Lake and the streams that feed it. The Pudong New Area on the river's opposite (east) shore is evidence in glass and steel of the financial power of the river.

PRIVATE VISIT OF SHANGHAI MUSEUM

The Shanghai Museum houses a spectacular collection of Chinese relics. A wander through the exhibit reveals tastefully illuminated artifacts dating from the Neolithic Age to the Qing Dynasty and contemporary times.  What to enjoy a good time inside the museum after hours? With the cocktail and a wonderful catering dinner.

ROARING 20S PARTY

Shanghai in the 1920’s and 1930’s, much like Chicago in later years, the city was ruled by the underworld, with Big Ears Du being the ‘Godfather’. Old Shanghai was a very special time and place. The city was run by foreigners but was not a colony, most residents were Chinese but it was not ruled by China. It was the greatest city of Asia, completely eclipsing Hong Kong and Tokyo. Wine and dines as in the ‘good old days’ at a Roaring 20s Party, a great fun event, with the décor creating a feeling of shanghai’s decadent past and participants encouraged to ‘dress up’ for the party.

DRAGON BOAT RACING AND BBQ LUNCH

Dragon boat competition is held on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is called Dragon Boat Festival.  It’s an age-old festival in memory of Quyuan, China’s great poet. This exciting and testing sport requires teamwork, hard work and an ability to let your hair down and ‘have some fun’.

TREASURE HUNT AT WATER VILLAGE ZHUJIAJIAO

Zhujiajiao is an ancient town that has existed on the bank of Dianshan Lake for over 1000 years. Various river estuaries and ports meet in the town and its nine big streets stretch out along the river banks. More than one thousand Ming and Qing dynasty buildings still stand in differing states of repair and disrepair and 36 ancient stone bridges cross the canal that runs through the center of the town. Places of historical interest and scenic beauty surround you every step you take here.
